I have never had a dog skunked before.
It was the typical early morning skunking. She cornered the poor striped guy in the corner of our yard and was sprayed right in the face.
I've heard from clients and friends that the skunk out shampoo doesn't work overly well. So I turned to Google and found a combination of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and Dawn dish soup.
I was skeptical and it took over an hour to use the whole concoction. BUT! It worked amazingly well!
So, if you also have the misfortune of running into a skunk, I suggest the following:
- 2 cups (500ml) of hydrogen peroxide
- 1/8 cup baking soda
- 2 teaspoons of Dawn dish detergent (the blue one)
Mix all the ingredients together and rub it into your dog's wet fur. Rinse and repeat until there is none left. Give lots of pets and a treat for their patients!
